Walt: solve subtraction problems using place values partitioning

  1. Hilda collected 632 poppy flowers for ANZAC day but 289 flowers wilted before she could use them. How many flowers were left with her?
632-289=
600-200=40
400-100=300
100+30=130
130-80=50
50-10=40
12-9=3
300+40+3=343
So you can't take away 30 from 80 so you borow 100
from 400 wicth leaves you with 300 and you can not take away 2 from 9 so you borow 10 from the 50 and leaves you with 40 and add it all up and your answer will be 343
