Pauline Harris works at Victoria university,she is discovering animals, climate change and Indigenous people. She has discovered that indigenous people that live in really cold places like Alaska have already talked about unusual climate change. 

Pauline Harris said that lakes are thawing and mosquitoes are hatching earlier and growing faster than it is supposed to.  

She has also said that Maori communities might be aware that Aotearoa of similar changes could be affecting wildlife.    

Pauline is working with a team of researchers to visit iwi and hapu throughout the country. The matauranga held by these communities extends years back.

It could reveal insights into how our plants and animals have acted in the past till now.

My Weekend

On the weekend I went to my cousin's house to stay with my cousin because she had no one to keep her company so I went to her house.

My cousin wanted to play pool table so we went and played. I told her to break the ball so she did.She got a solid ball in so all the stripe balls were mine. 

Then it was my turn to hit the ball but I got my cousins ball instead of my ball. But she was happy that I got her ball because she wanted to win. 

It was my cousin's turn to hit the ball but she got the black ball which means that I have won. She was a bit upset but we still had a good game. 

After that we went inside to help my uncle make dinner. We had mince and paste which was yum. Then we watched a movie and went to sleep.

Treasure Hunt

This week was Book week.There was play performed in our school hall on Tuesday.

The play was about the Treasure hunt that has been written by Craig Christie.

There were two tribes living on an island. These two blamed each other for stealing each other song.

The treeland tribe was led by George and the seaview tribe was led by Jessica.These two characters teamed up to solve the problem about the lost treasure that was their song.

The problem was solved when they were able to put the torn map together and work out how to get to the treasure. They had to read three different books to solve the problem.

I really enjoyed this play because both characters were very smart and talented.They sang very well and were also very hilarious.

Thank you Sam and Lydia for coming to our school. I  hope to see you again next year.

Financial Literacy

We learnt about how to budget and save money. The other topics we learnt about were insurance,borrowing and lending,identity theft mortgage,trust and saving money.

Our tutors were Ema,Jane and Matt from price waterhouse and cooper accountant.

I enjoyed all the sessions because the activities were very exciting and practical.

Kiwi sport

Today the senior school had it's first Kiwi sport session for this term.



Ben, from Auckland Badminton, taught us some badminton skills. We used a badminton racket and a shuttle.



We learned how to hit the shuttle using a forearm hit and backhand hit. Ben also taught us how to hold the racket using different grips.



I felt excited and happy because I kept on hitting the shuttle the most.

Cultural Festival

I am feeling very excited about taking part in  cultural activities at school this term.

Today I picked two cultural groups that I want to be in.

My first choice was Cook Island and I picked  Kiwi Jam as my second choice.

I am hoping I get my first choice.

My cousin's birthday poem

Singing happy birthday loud and clear-cutting cake for everyone to eat. Chicken,salad, fried rice yum I am going to eat. Handing Lollie bags around a lot to eat in the Lollie bags. Playing monopoly and wining lollie’s I kept on winning because I was very smart.

 

Volleyball Poem

Hitting spiking the ball of the net setting the ball up for your family members to hit. Having lots of fun in the sunshine routing around to serve or spike watch out the ball is coming your way you better set it up or else hit it yourself. Finally, the  game is over me and my family had a lot of fun in the sunshine playing volleyball.

My aunt's house

In the holidays I went to my aunt's house to play with my cousin’s. When we got there we played volleyball it was me and my cousin vs my uncle.  I and my cousin had won to our uncle, my cousin’s sister, and my mun. Once we had finished playing we had to go and eat, we ate KFC. After eating we went back home to get some sleep.

Last day for term one

Yes it is the last day for term one.

Hi,I am Pitara.The things that I did well this term were maths,reading and taking good leadership. I fell I need to work on my writing.I would do writing at home to make things better next term.I felt happy and confident working in room 10 this term because I had all my friends to support me.

My best friend

Kia orana my name is Pitara and  I will be talking about my best friend Victoria.Victoria and I have been best friends when we started school.I like Victoria as my best friend cause she has always looked after me and stands up for me. Also I always see a big smile on her face everyday at school.Victoria is the same age as me my birthday is on May 8th and her one is December the 12th.

How the heart works

Today I have found out that The lungs bring in the oxygen inside the heart when you breath,the heart pumps blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen.

Then  pumps the Oxygenated blood out to the rest of the body. After the blood has delivered all the oxygen, it picks up carbon dioxide a waste product. Then the blood goes back to the lungs to drop off the carbon dioxide and pick up more oxygen then its starts all over again.
