Treasure Hunt

This week was Book week. There was play performed in our school hall on Tuesday.

The play was about the Treasure hunt that has been written by Craig Christie.

There were two tribes living on an island. These two blamed each other for stealing each other song.

The treeland tribe was led by George and the seaview tribe was led by Jessica. These two characters teamed up to solve the problem about the lost treasure that was their song.

The problem was solved when they were able to put the torn map together and work out how to get to the treasure. They had to read three different books to solve the problem.

I really enjoyed this play because both characters were very smart and talented. They sang very well and were also very hilarious.

Term 2-Week 3 Addition and Subtraction

W.A.L.T Solve subtraction problems using place value partitioning

How I felt

I felt tired because there was a lot of strategy to do
57+28=85 50+20=70 7+8=15 70+15=85
1341-967= 1000-900=100 140-60=80 11-7=4 300+70+4=374
And you have 300 so add the 100 together and you will have 400.Also you can not take away 60 from 40 because 60 is high so borrow 100 from 400 and you will have 300. Impossible to take 7 from 1 so you have to borrow 10 from 80 and you will have 70 left

Kiwi sport

Today the senior school had it's first Kiwi sport session for this term.

Image result for badminton racket with shuttlecockBen, from Auckland Badminton, taught us some badminton skills. We used a badminton racket and a shuttle.

We learned how to hit the shuttle using a forearm hit and backhand hit. Ben also taught us how to hold the racket using different grips.

I felt excited and happy because I kept on hitting the shuttle the most.

Maths work

Walt: solve subtraction problems using place values partitioning

  1. Hilda collected 632 poppy flowers for ANZAC day but 289 flowers wilted before she could use them. How many flowers were left with her?
632-289=
600-200=40
400-100=300
100+30=130
130-80=50
50-10=40
12-9=3
300+40+3=343
So you can't take away 30 from 80 so you borow 100
from 400 wicth leaves you with 300 and you can not take away 2 from 9 so you borow 10 from the 50 and leaves you with 40 and add it all up and your answer will be 343
